As a dietary supplement, CLA, conjugated linoleic acid, is a fatty acid (one of the omega 6 fatty acids, a derivative of linoleic acid). It occurs naturally in meat and dairy products and helps maintain normal levels of cholesterol in the blood. It is an anti-oxidant and participates in metabolic processes in the human organism. CLA occurs naturally in beef and mutton and in unskimmed dairy products. However, poor breeding and feeding of cattle (artificial feed mixtures rather than grass) means that its content in such meat is falling and so it must be taken into the human body from other sources. The use of conjugated linoleic acid is not suitable for children under 3 years of age, pregnant women and breastfeeding women. The recommended daily dosage that makes the properties mentioned possible is 1.5 g according to EU regulation.
